Privacy Policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal data.
This Privacy Policy explains how Babysteps Real Estate SL ("Babysteps", "we", "us") processes personal data when you use the Babysteps Network — our cross-border platform connecting real estate professionals and the public-facing property portal built on top of it. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable local data-protection laws in every country where we operate.
1. Who we are (Data Controller)
The controller responsible for your personal data is:
- Babysteps Real Estate SL
- Calle del Pozo 1, 03769 Benimeli (Alicante), Spain
- Company registration (CIF/NIF): B24778540
- Privacy contact: info@babysteps-re.com
Babysteps is established in the European Union. As the platform expands to other regions, this policy and our safeguards apply globally, with local requirements respected in each market.
2. The data we collect
We collect only what we need to run the network and provide our services:
a. Members (real estate professionals)
- Identity & contact: name, business email, phone number, agency name, country/region, professional or licence details you choose to share.
- Account & membership: login credentials (stored securely), membership tier, badges, credits balance and history.
- Listings you publish: property details, descriptions, photos, location and reference data.
- Billing: subscription and payment records. Card details are handled by our payment provider (Stripe) — we do not store your full card number.
b. Buyers & site visitors (public portal)
- Search and browsing activity, saved searches and favourites.
- Enquiry data you submit (name, email, phone, message) when contacting a member about a property.
- For certain rental listings viewable without an account: a phone number used for verification.
- Where applicable, a member-issued "generation code" used to access the international portal.
c. Technical & usage data
- Device and connection information (IP address, browser type), and cookies or similar technologies (see section 8).
- Log data needed for security, fraud prevention and to keep the service running.
3. Why we use your data, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Creating and managing your account and membership; providing the platform | Performance of a contract |
| Publishing listings and connecting members across borders | Performance of a contract |
| Processing payments, memberships, credits and badges | Contract / legal obligation (accounting) |
| Verifying transactions for badges, and preventing fraud & abuse | Legitimate interests |
| Passing your enquiry to the relevant member | Performance of a contract / legitimate interests |
| Sending service messages (e.g. account, security, transactional emails) | Performance of a contract / legitimate interests |
| Marketing communications and newsletters | Consent (you can withdraw it at any time) |
| Meeting legal, tax and regulatory obligations | Legal obligation |
4. How we share data
We never sell your personal data. We share it only as needed to run the network:
- With other members — the purpose of the network is cross-border collaboration. When you send an enquiry, or when members work together on a deal, the relevant contact details are shared with the member concerned. Members agree their own terms directly; Babysteps takes no commission and imposes no split.
- With service providers (processors) acting on our instructions: payment processing (Stripe), hosting and database infrastructure, email delivery, and mapping services. They may only process data to provide their service to us.
- With legal partners (lawyers/notaries) only where you request an introduction or consultation.
- With authorities where we are legally required to, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
5. International data transfers
As we expand beyond Europe, your data may be processed in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). When that happens, we put appropriate safeguards in place — such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or a transfer to a country with an adequacy decision — so your data keeps an equivalent level of protection wherever it is handled.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above: for the life of your account and membership, and afterwards only where we must (for example, invoices and transaction records kept for legally required accounting periods). When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR (and equivalent laws), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy;
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten"), where applicable;
- Restrict or object to certain processing;
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.
To exercise any of these, contact info@babysteps-re.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority — in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD, www.aepd.es).
8. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, keep the site secure and understand how it is used. Non-essential cookies are only set with your consent, which you can manage or withdraw at any time through the cookie settings on the site.
9. Data security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit, access controls and secure, reputable infrastructure providers — to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
10. Children
The Babysteps Network is intended for real estate professionals and adult users. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform grows or as the law changes. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date, and notify members of material changes.
